Contemporary renovation of beachside family home

This six-month project was a complex structural refurbishment, completed in July 2019.

 

 

 

Requiring a major aesthetic update as well as a structural renewal, the project included; sanding and polishing floors, new plaster and full repaint throughout the home to all three levels, all new electrical and light fittings and a complete makeover to the self-contained guest quarters downstairs.

The exterior and outdoor areas of the home were also renovated with re-tiling of the upstairs entertaining area, the addition of an outdoor kitchen, and new roofing at four levels. Brand new aluminum louvers and new panel-lift garage doors added the finishing touches.

This is an original two-story western red-cedar home, where ongoing projects are in the works for return customers who love working with the Baldwin Building Group team.

Some of the mini-projects we have undertaken at this site include an alfresco outdoor extension, expansive new hardwood deck, the fitment of new windows and doors and new James Hardie exterior cladding.

This penthouse apartment is located on the seventh floor of a beautiful, sloped, oceanfront property. The entire apartment renovation involved creating an open-living environment with living, kitchen and dining, two new bathrooms, study and the relocation of the master bedroom. The installation of two fire doors into the adjoining apartment created an impressive total living area of more than 350m2.

 

The removal of several concrete Besser block walls was required for the new design, and with buildings either side, access was a significant challenge. Unable to crane materials in or out, wheelbarrows were used to move 12 tonnes of blocks out of the building, and larger items were physically carried up the ten flights of stairs.

 

 

Hailing from Western NSW, the owners opted for a style combined their country roots with an elegant coastal feel. Working with Two Birds design, they were able to create a space that flowed between the adjoined apartments perfectly for open living and entertaining.

Baldwin Building undertook this entire home renovation mid-2017, with the project spanning six months. When purchased, the home was a two bedroom cottage, built in the 1920’s and the owners opted to renovate and restore the Federal/Edwardian style instead of knocking the building down.

 

Working closely with designer Phillip Babbage, the Baldwin team used many years of experience to bring the house design to life within a limited space provided by the 340m2 property.  The end result - a beautiful two bedroom, two bathroom, sitting room, living room, kitchen/dining, laundry, two outdoor courtyards, BBQ area and a concrete block pool.

 

The build features the original mahogany walls and ceiling lining boards, original hardwood timber floors, handmade timber doors with cast iron sliders and the reuse of various materials within the final finishings.

 

 

The end result is the perfect mix of modern comfort and style, with period features and charm.
